Creative Jobs Under Threat? OpenAI CTO’s Controversial Statement Sparks Debate
In a provocative conversation with Dartmouth University Trustee Jeffrey Blackburn, OpenAI’s CTO Mira Murati made a statement that has sent shockwaves through the creative community: ““Some creative jobs maybe will go away, but maybe they shouldn’t have been there in the first place — if the content that comes out of it is not high quality. I really believe that using it as a tool for education, (and) creativity, will expand our intelligence.”
This bold assertion has ignited a fierce debate among writers, photographers, designers, artists, and YouTube creators. Murati's comment suggests AI could render certain creative professions obsolete, sparking fears and outrage among professionals who feel their work is undervalued. The idea that creative jobs might not deserve to exist if they don't produce "high-quality" content overlooks the subjective nature of creativity and the intrinsic value of human expression.
Why is this problematic? Generative AI like GPT has not become a true general-purpose technology capable of replacing jobs on a large scale. Instead, it aids specific tasks by saving time, not in outright job disruption. Creativity—crafting narratives, capturing moments, and connecting with audiences—is not something AI can replicate with mere efficiency.
Moreover, the rise of generative AI has flooded the internet with low-quality, synthetic content. Chatbots and AI-generated text are often used for phishing, spreading misinformation, and ideologically driven manipulation, further diminishing the quality of online content. The KING of LLMs is now Claude Sonnet 3.5 from Anthropic.
Claude 3.5 Sonnet outperforms Claude 3 Opus, GPT-4o and Gemini 1.5 Pro in multiple benchmarks, including coding and reasoning tests.
Cost efficiency: The model is 4-5 times cheaper than competing products.
Advanced capabilities: It features excellent reasoning, programming and multilingual maths capabilities and is able to read diagrams and transcribe text from images.
Immediate availability: Available via Anthropic API, Amazon Bedrock and Google Cloud's Vertex AI with planned future updates.
According to the Anthropic team, it shows marked improvement in grasping nuance, humor, and complex instructions, and is exceptional at writing high-quality content with a natural, relatable tone.
On top: it’s twice as fast as Claude 3 Opus, their flagship paid model. (Source)
Runway introduces Gen-3 Alpha
Runway launches the Gen-3 Alpha model with enhanced features to compete with OpenAI's Sora. (Source)
Improved video quality: Gen-3 Alpha promises more expressive faces, sharper video and better control over style and motion.
Earlier access for users: Paid users will get access to Gen-3 Alpha before free users, possibly even before the availability of OpenAI's Sora.
Customisation for customers: Runway offers selected customers customised model versions tailored to specific artistic and narrative requirements.
Focus on user control: The new model offers advanced video output editing features to meet users' desire for more control.

OpenAI CTO Murati mentioned in an interview that GPT-3's intelligence is comparable to that of a child, GPT-4 to that of a smart high school student, and the next generation model (GPT-5), set to be released in 18 months, will reach a PhD level.
Claude 3.5 Sonnet has already pushed the countdown to AGI to 75%, becoming the first model to achieve a test score higher than the smartest human PhD.
In graduate-level reasoning (GPQA), undergraduate-level knowledge (MMLU), and coding ability (HumanEval), Claude 3.5 Sonnet unexpectedly set new state-of-the-art records.
It scored 90.4 in MMLU and 67.2 in GPQA.
This is also the first time an LLM has surpassed the 65% threshold in GPQA, reaching the level of the smartest human PhD.
It is worth noting that an average PhD scores 34% in GPQA, a specialized PhD scores 65%, and Claude 3.5 Sonnet has clearly exceeded them.
